Did you know that by the time you turn 30, you’ve spent about 28 days brushing your teeth? That is, of course, if you brush twice a day for the recommended two minutes each time. It’s more time than a lot of us have put into relationships. Since you’ve been so close to your toothbrush, here are 5 things to keep in mind:

1. Choose soft bristles over hard ones unless recommended by your dentist. —– Soft bristles are more pliable and get between teeth more easily. Hard bristles can be painful and may wear away your gums and tooth enamel.

2. Toothbrushes need to be replaced every 3 months. —– If you can’t remember when you last replaced your toothbrush, it’s probably time to get a new one. Toothbrushes need to be replaced when they get frayed and worn.

3. Don’t chew! —– It may be tempting for you or your toddler to chew on your toothbrush’s head, but that only shortens the life of the life of the bristles.

4. Brush your teeth right after a meal. —– Don’t even wait until after the dishes. It’s best to remove food and debris right away. You’ll give your teeth a shot of fluoride right when they need it the most.

5. You get better ZZZs with bedtime brushing. —– Create a relaxing bedtime routine that includes brushing your teeth. Your body will soon realize it’s time to wind down after a busy day.

Your relationship with your toothbrush is time well spent. Keep on brushing!
